I know we shouldnt laugh at other people, but when I saw these I just could'nt hold it in! You see, there are certain laws that you just have to obey when displaying yourself to the world on the RED CARPET. Take a look, it'll make you feel so much more confident about yourself!

1. Thou shalt remember to remove excess body hair when stepping out on the red carpet - especially when, like Julia Roberts, you will be exposing certain areas!

2. Thou shalt dress for your shape, which in Gynweth Paltrow's case means wearing a bra and something less gothic!

3. Thou shalt not clash with the red carpet (or wear anything resembling a giant blanket, Goldie Hawn)

4. Thou shalt watch out for wardrobe malfunctions. How could Tara Reid not notice that she was baring all?!

5. Thou shalt not dress up as a animal, even if you are a bit on the quirky side like Bjork. wardrobe malfunctions. How could Tara Reid not notice that she was baring all?!

6. Thou shalt not let the oufit overpower you. Cher may be flamboyant and have great abs, but is it really any excuse to dress up like a Vegas showgirl?

7. Thou shalt dress appropriately for the occasion. Pamela Anderson should've taken this advice on board when she wore this superb little (being the operative word) outfit to the Oscars - tut!

8. Thou shalt remember that simple is best. In Dennis Rodman's case, this means not wearing everything in his wardrobe in one go.

9. Thou shalt dress for your age. Lara Flyn Boyle goes back to childhood ballet lessons with this absymal creation.

I found an ancient green dress with sequins hiding in my mom's closet the other day...it was a pretty scary sight, sequins on the top and moth-made holes on the bottom, i got a bit inspired. so i found some tulle, and this is kinda where it took me:)

SA Fashion Week Disaster...

I recently bought the November issue of my favorite magazine, Elle, and I came across quite an interesting article about what is wrong with South African fashion. This caught my attention at once because I too think that there is something seriously wrong with the way that we, as young South African designers, portray our own unique country as just like everyone else’s.

It was written by Chris Viljoen and he spoke about how young South African fashion designer have forgotten what they are supposed to be striving for in today’s modern world, a truly South African collection with an individual voice.

Here it is so you can see what I’m going on about…

“WHATS WRONG WITH SOUTH AFRICAN FASHION?

I have just attended a multitude of South African fashion weeks. It was a grueling marathon of air kissing, smiling and standing around in between the stampede at each show’s entrance, the rush to find your seat, and then hope that this one will turn out to be The One.

But instead of being wowed by inventiveness, creative genius or just, for heaven’s sake, something new, with the exception of a handful of designers I encountered dull copycats with no understanding of our interest in our roots and zero ability to turn our South African identity into an advantage.

In most cases no thought had gone into the collection; it was clear the designers had only the vaguest idea of who they were or what their signature was and as for the fit, finish and construction…

Most seam to have forgotten that fashion has to be contemporary; that it has to appeal to a client who lives in the 21^st century; or that fashion is a business in which their job is to inspire the public to dream about that amazing dress, that sensational jacket. They don’t seam to realize that consumers of instant fashion need a reason to buy South African design instead of mass-produced clothing, and wont be persuaded by party frocks apparently designed for a badly themed dress-up party.

What has happened? Dose everyone now believe life is a reality show and at the end of 13 episodes you become a designer?

It left me feeling very depressed about the state of South African fashion and irritated, too, by designers who told me proudly that they are completely oblivious to what happens elsewhere in the world and rely entirely on their own creative reserves. It’s probably because they’re so stubbornly out of touch with the rest of the world that they’ve missed the lessons coming from fashion weeks in Australia and Brazil – emerging fashion industries that artfully mix both the global zeitgeist and their immediate reality into their designs, while paying careful attention to every fold, ruffle, collar and hem and, most importantly, injecting the enterprise with their passion.

SO WHAT HAD I BEEN HOPING TO SEE AT FASHION WEEK? A strong signature that tells me who the designer is, design that anticipates the future and what potential clients will want in the coming season. (We cannot forget that fashion is about what is next and not about the past and, when we do use the past, to reinterpret it so it becomes contemporary.) A thread that connects the collection; it could be anything – colour, drape, pattern. The aim should be to speak with a strong voice so it’s clear what you are trying to say. Perfect visual rhythm with strong impact but not over styled. Attention to detail – to every fold, print, drape, shape and the way the garment moves.

DID I FIND IT? It’s late on a Saturday night at the end of Sanlam SA Fashion Week and I’m sitting in a very small chair in a half-built shopping mall. Everything seems a little odd, with a shop doubling up as both backdrop and fitting room.

Last season Clive Rundle’s show was an epic – far too long and a little self-indulgent. But it’s Clive and I’m always interested to see what he’ll do next. What he dose next is to transport me into Cliveland (a strange place but I love it) and makes me dream about fashion again.

It’s a fantastical show (incorporating reworked men’s suits, the white shirt collar and the most amazing zipped mesh trails) that shows me both the city of Jo’burg and its future.

It confirms my belief that putting a collection together is like cooking an amazing meal. You need all the best ingredients and a recipe that works for you. You have to cook it to perfection and feed it to a public that is starving to be proud of South African design. They’ll beg you for a second helping.

Hey everyone, my name's Chelsea :) I'm seventeen years old. I know that most of you properly think that this blog is pretty random; I know I would also think that. You’re properly saying to yourself "what could she possibly know about fashion?" well the answer is, not a whole lot. I am what you would call an 'amateur' fashion designer (although I hate the term). I have been designing since I could dress myself, it’s my complete passion. I plan to study fashion at the University of Johannesburg when I leave school in a couple of years.

I've always thought about starting up a blog to show my designs to the world, although i am sure that some of you have exceptional designing skills that will far out-shine my own! if so, i would really love to see them:) and I would really appreciate it if you gave me some advice.

But I wanted to use this blog, not only to see what's out there in terms of fashion, but also to experiment with the concept of fashion and music combining to create a whole round magical experience. Because, you see, music is my second love, as it is most teenagers'. I was thinking that I would put some of my ideas up here soon, the fashion encapsulating the music. If you have any ideas on this, feel free to comment.

Lastly I would like to say that I am certainly not here to lecture to anyone about what fashion is supposed to be. I believe that everyone has their own very individual style and taste, and I would love to see all of them. I will try to enter an entry at least once a week, obviously something to do with fashion. If anyone has any ideas about topics, give me a shout!
